4.0L Exhaust question
I'm going to check the junk yards for this part... It's the y-pipe that runs from the exhaust manifolds to the collector down by the frame... My question is.. Is the y-pipe the same beds and bolts up the same at the collector on the OHV as it is on the SOHC? I'm going to go look for one because the OHV's have no pre-cats with 02 sensor holes and I'm wondering if the swap is bolt on, less restriction.
I plan on deleting those pre cats as well as the last cat in the system, only leaving 1 on.
Thanks guys!

Not lookin for any gains other than sound. That's the only reason... Ask shane... My truck is way quiet and always has been and I want something different now! I've had a super 44 and super 40 on it and neither one was loud. Time for an upgrade...
I've been told the cats on the new rigs these days are mainly high flow so that's good, but the pre cats are going to go if the y-pipe is bolt on from the OHV motor. Then the last cat in the system is going to go also, leaving only 1 in the system... All that's needed.

Why don't you retune after deleting them so that you can take advantage of having less temperature in the combustion system. Less backpressure will also allow you to advance timing without knock. Do you have a tuner for your truck?
It will be hella loud, and thats pretty cool. You will need to fool your computer by using anti-foulers on the rear oxygen sensors like I've done so many times. If you need help PM me and I can get you the link to the thread on this trick.

Ok so I pulled a y-pipe off a 94 and one off a 98 (not sure exactly on the years) and total was $10. They're each a bit different so that's why I grabbed em both.
Next week at school I'll do the swap and figue out which one works better and what mods and stuff I had to do. I'll be taking pictures... Jp7, I'll PM you with what I need to do since I don't have a tuner.

So I found a good size chunk of 2-1/4in galvanized tubing I could use for a cat delete. Took it to a local exhaust shop and since they can't be affiliated with cat removal, he said he could put the bends in it if I told him what bends to make, so he didn't get in trouble. The tube for this only needs to be moved over about 2.25-2.5in (with a dog leg like bend in the tube).
Tomorrow I'm going to buy the spark plug anti-foulers for the 3rd O2 sensor and I'm taking my cat-less y-pipes to school tomorrow to install them and remove the 4th cat.
Here's what the guy did for me... ($10 for the bends and the flared end and free tubing from school!):
Oh and I have 2 MORE SD 3rd's! One came off a 2006 and one came off a 2008. So the year varies on these gems!
One of them is spoken for by Toreador, the other is going to be for sale. I have 1 other one too but that spoken for by FRXLT!
