Straight Pipe Single Out

So all the videos I have seen on YouTube of straight pipes are all with duel outs. My question is what would a single out straight pipe sound like? Quieter?

Bwanaworker 01-17-2011 07:21 PM

01 Ranger 4.0 I guess my main question is Muffler, Glass Pack or straight pipes? I'm getting my exhaust done tomorrow and still can't make up my mind. Any input is great Thanx guys

umm had imy 4.0 straight piped with single outlet for a day (sounded like ass) then a thrush turbo muffler for a few months, now straight piped duals coming out in front of back right tire, putting a glasspack on tmr, but leavin the duals

I'm thinking muffler at the moment but about 5 min ago I was positive I wanted straight pipe lol. Why did you take the muffler off?

Ended up going straight pipe duels with black chrome tips. Sounds great I'm glad I went straight pipe. The YouTube doesnt do it justice they sound 10x better then I expected. I will toss up some pix when I get a chance.

Wirelessly posted (Android)

Did they y it where the existing muffler was?

Bwanaworker 01-18-2011 03:27 PM

Basically. The flange where the Cat meets the rest of the exhaust was bad so we cut that off and split it from there.

DimeWylde 01-18-2011 03:29 PM

I like mine. Its pretty much open mid-pipe though. No full exhaust just straight pipe cut right around where the passengers feet would be. Super loud apparently, sounds mean. Just a huge loss of power I'm feeling now.

Bwanaworker 01-18-2011 04:03 PM

I haven't been able to drive it much yet but as far as I can tell it shifted the power band up a little(lost some low endgained some high end) but it's minimal. It still has all 4 Cats so it's not a night and day difference but it's there. I had a Blazer with the 4.3HO before this truck with no Cats and duel glass packs and that was absolute trash zero low end right up to the point she blew up.

As clean as they ever will be

You are wrong.

You almost have to scream at highway speeds to talk to the other passenger.

I have had straight pipe for 4 years. I know what droning sounds like.

do you know what drone is?

vista4.0 01-26-2011 08:54 AM

surprisingly my straight pipe dumped under the bed isnt that bad on the highway. Ya it drones a bit but i dont have to yell to have a convo. Of course the newer rangers have a different cat setup which I think is the difference. When RangerExtreme did the same setup to his 01 our trucks sounded nothing alike and his was like 10x louder than mine.
