straight piped?
I want to know how many people have straight piped there ranger i have a 98 and was thinking of doing it but wasnt sure how it sounds or works for other

1,427 people have straight piped a ranger.
I don't like how it sounds, and would recommend something like a flowmaster or even a cheap glasspack over straight piping. what engine do you have? obviously that will affect the sound, and if you straight pipe it you might not have enough backpressure. |
a v6 4.0

I have the 4.0 but it's the SOHC with a glasspack. I like it ok, some people like how they sound straight piped, and some don't. I think some sort of muffler sounds better. I wouldn't expect any performance gains out of it.

ok thanks

mines the 4.0 also i have took off my muffler and one converter added and Y pipe and 3 inch tips bent at a 45 degree and i think it sounds pretty good. straight piped 3.0 sounds like glass in a blender though.
|
I cut the cats off my 4.0 and fab'ed a flange plat with 3 inch to a flowmaster 40 and I think it sounds good, not to loud but just enough.
|
will a exhaust shop do this for me? the connection between the header pipes and the cat flange is a pain in the ass.
|
04rangerdave had his straight piped. it sounded good til about 3200RPM then it sounded weird lol.
you'll lose a lot of low end torque tho |
really? i cant afford to lose low end torque haha.

You could always leave all the cats on, then put a y pipe where the muffler would be then put piping out the back or however you like it. I had that set up for about a week. Then I went back to the muffler shop and had a SI/DO magnaflow muffler put on. It's my favorite sound so far out of the 6 different exhaust set upsets I've had lol. |
I think I might just get a cherry bomb from autozone and make slight mods from there
