03 ford ranger NO MUFFLEr

Anybody ever have a exhaust where they just had a y pipe and bent the tubing in front of the rear tire without a muffler, All stock sized tubing 2" with some screwed on tips... Would this harm my engine or anything? all 4 cats are staying on just removing the dam thing that muffles the sound... is this legal in pennsylvania?? i looked in my lmc truck magizine and saw their dual exhuast system and it says 50 state legal and replaces the stock muffler, its just a straight pipe to a y pipe and bent to go over the axle and straight out the back under the rear bumper. so i figured its 5o state legal to do this set up??

Put a muffler on it unless you like it drowning on the highway. I had mine without a muffler for a while because I was to cheap to replace it. It doesn't sound good at all just my opinion.

wow i wasnt sure how it was gonna sound, guess i have to see for my self. I bought a intermediate pipe, it has the flange on it and im gonna ask the exhaust guy to build it off of that, so when inspection time comes i can swap my setup with my original cat back system. it'll be like nothing changed..

I have my exhaust exiting before the back passenger side tire. At first I used a 10 Series Flowmaster, and it sounded so beast! But whenever I got onto the highway going 65+ it was awful. All I heard was nasty drone in cab. You basically had to yell over the loudness. So I switched to a Magnaflow muffler. Crazy loud taking off and under load, but on the highway at cruising speeds the sound is very little and no drone anymore. Best decision on exhaust I have ever done.

Just food for your thoughts.

ive noticed with straight pipes on rangers older than mine so 06 on back they are pretty damn loud. My 07 though is only as loud as a flowmaster setup really. I dont know if its how I have mine setup or not.

To the OP. I didnt realize you were so close to me. If you like we could get together so you can hear mine.

Sorry for the late response. But I just got a regular Magnaflow. The number to be specific is 12158. It is an oval one that is 14" long, single in dual out both 2.5" openings. I needed the smallest length one because of the lightning set up that I have on there. It's a tight fit, but it works. The exhaust guy had to cut a new pipe from the last cat back to make it all fit.

After 4 different exhaust set ups, I am finally happy lol.

speak English. Could you be more clear? Also it does not effect your O2 sensors in any way. I lost low end torque that's all, I switch to a Magnaflow muffler and there is a big difference.

I honestly didnt really see any performance gains/losses going mufflerless.

I had a 03 F-150 back in the day with nothin but cherry bombs. Loud as can be. They relocated the 02 sensor but it still lit up my check engine light. It got 9 mpg before and after lol

yep it sounds good, i love the down shift burping, it's like a backfire but it bubbles, hard to explain but it sounds sweet... it got no drone in 5th crusing, and im glad, the only thing is i lost some low end torque im dissapointed
