Humanly Possible?

I was thinking would it be awesome/possible to but a new Mazda RX-8 engine in a Mazda B -or- Ranger (but i would keep the Mazda egine in a Mazda truck) I mean they do weigh 90 pounds lighter than the all aluminum V-6's and make nice HP. I just want to know what you all think...

The Mazdaspeed B package...

Anything's possible. All you need is the cash.. It certianly wouldn't be a direct swap!

How are rotary's with the torque curve? I don't know much about them and I'm curious if they are more of a car engine or not? Trucks need more low end torque and get by with less HP as a rule while cars get away perfectly fine with maxed high end HP instead.

If a guy was using one for crawling, i guess they are torquey? How do you tune them?

I was gonna say that too. Methinks the rotary is more HP oriented than torque, hence the use in sports cars. But then maybe it could be re-tuned. I dunno. Still, I'd think a big-ol' V8 would be more worthy of your time..

rotaries were first used in formula or F1 i think (dont quote me on that) now dont quote me on this either but i think torque and HP ranges are pretty even matched.

Just spend the time and money on a 302. You will get better or more performance plus a nice V8 sound

ugh, no...the rotary's they put in the rx8's suck...u'd have to find a TT rx7 engine...and those are rare...

its not worth the trouble anymore to deal with a rotary...the idea is a novel one, none the less....but a simple v-6/8 design is way more practical in this day and age...

i'm mr. MAZDASPEED, and i'm tryin to build my truck up to a standard that they would have...i even have my own badges fabbed up.

they would need to re-do the suspension, mos def...theres also brake problems, as the rangers discs are too small for most applications....etc....

first auto rx-8's are a joke. mazda tuned the motor for WAY less power because they didn't want to build the auto. stronger.

if i remember right rotory motor's suck in the torque department

actually... the rotary is a much simpler design... this being it's benefit.

Rotary motors make NO torque, all high end power... It would be pointless to put one in anything heavy, it simply wouldn't move it without revving the snot out of it. Rotary motors are a very simple design, with very few parts (compared to a piston motor)... The only real wear that occurs is at the apex seals, which are pretty much the main bearings, like you would have in a normal engine. Roto motors really shouldn't be NA and the new RX8 proves that, they suck...

Let's put it this way, the RX8 turns off the A/C compressor at idle.

I QUOTED you... and your right they were first used in the Mazda F1 car.. and they moved to the almight RX-7 :mega drool: and the
RX-8

And i would use the RX-7 engine... better all around performance.

And you guys complain about fuel economy now, just think of the economy you could get with a rotary in a Ranger. I think single digits would be possible. Don't forget to keep a few quarts of extra oil around, a rotary's thirst goes beyond gasoline.

Sometime during ones life they must decide. Do i dare to be different and do something unique? -or- Take the route everyone else takes? I would gladly drop that engine into a Mazda B if i owned one. And the only single digit Rotary engine i know of has to add two cycle egine oil to their 98 octane gas for lube issues. And that thing flies, it's a RX-7 in England.

Sadly, though, some "dare to be different" just to BE different and for NO other reason.

The results are usually pathetic.

"Being like everyone else" is neither a virtue nor a sin -- but if what "everyone else" is doing is what works best, why would you want to change it unless you've got emotional issues?

I meant fuel economy in the single digits, as in 9 miles per gallon.

Race the 6-Speed, I think even you would get it handed to ya, they are a very quick car, if the driver is any good that is, the clutch in those things are alittle touchy...

PARTICULARLY with the weight of our vehicles, vs. the RX series. I don't imagine those cars are very heavy.

Weight would be the key difference. I think that engine in a Ranger would be torture to drive around.
