Ran Mobil1 in the Ranger and it was fine

Ran Motorcraft Syn Blend in the F-150 for the last 20,000 miles

Now have a box of Amsoil out in the garage going in next oil change

Is it true that if one wants to run on full synthetic....he/she needs to start from the beginning (ie., low km on odometer)? Just curious since I just passed the 10,000 km (6,000 mi) mark and am still using regular oil.

I have run Synthetic in the Ranger since the first oil change. Mobil 1 and a Motorcraft filter every single time.

As far as running it from the beginning, I never understood that. If it is a problem with mixing synthetic and non-synthetic oils.... why do we have synthetic blends?

that used to be the case but not anymore...you can start using synthetic at any time and go back to conventional if synthetic gets to expensive

BTW, IIRC Ford uses synthetic blends in our trucks from the factory.

Hmm I don't know about them being the same thing. I just did a google search and couldn't find any information about it even being a rumor. Who knows though, it could be.

It's amazing that people spend thousands of dollars on their truck, and then use cheap oil & filters to save a few pennies. I changed my oil at 500 miles on the odometer to Mobil 1 w/ Mobil 1 filter, also changed power steering fluid to Mobil 1 ATF (Wonder how many people change their power steering fluid?) , gearbox change is next. (Note: I change my engine oil on 10,000 mile intervals).

I'm thinking about changing to synthetic next time I change oil if it really does reduce valve train noise. When accelerating hard, my engine makes a horrible racket.

I started running Syn. since my truck was pretty much new. From what I've been told from friends, and mechanics is that you can switch at any time. I was also told to NEVER switch back. Syn. won't break down as easily and takes like 8000km to even get dirty.

If you're switching from organic oil to synthetic oil you chould run semi-synthetic first for 3,000 miles then switch to synthetic for 3,000 miles and then after that you can go 3-6,000 in between. also, 50 miles before your oil change you could put a quart of transmission fluid in with the old oil. it works as a detergent and cleans the inside of your engine.
