Throttle Response
hey i have a 2002 Ranger (in sig) and i dont seem to have the best throttle response.. i noticed a little improvements when i got all my new parts but it still seems like if i need some quick pickup, ill step down and it will take a few seconds to really snap into gear, any solutions?
|
I am guessing its an auto. a Bama programmer will help refine your shifting
|
i dont have any solutions but i got the same problem feels like it takes a second or 2 to get up and go
|
i've found out on a lot of new fords (probaly all makes) with autos its like this. its as the tranny waits a few seconds to go after ya whomp it.
what rear end ratio do u have? i do notice that sarahs ranger is peppier then my moms 03 xploder sport. 4:10s V. 3:73s... |
It's normal. Its the tranny shifting into a lower gear.
|
has anybody else noticed that if your going down the road, in overdrive and you keep your foot on the gas but take your left foot and just tap the brake harder enough for it to "click" which isnt really putting on the brakes but just hitting the sensor. it will kick it down a gear everytime in mine. i dont know if its just the ohv or what. anybody else's done that?

Bama makes the response and shifting better....but in the end its still an auto and it will never be instant.
|
i have this same thing
i need a chip.... |
two words...SHIFT KIT.
|
they tend to hurt our trannys...too much pressure from what i hear
|
Mine takes about a second or so too, sucks. It's less than a sec but seems longer when you need it. I have a JET chip, changed the shifting and timing, but not alot on what we're talking about. Just put an e-fan in and it helps a little. But once mine downshifts to get the power, it GOES!
Sometimes i'll drive safely in 2nd gear if i'm not going that fast while in traffic or on hilly roads, so it doesn't shift at all. |
show me proven results a shift kit will hurt a tranny.
programmers that boost line pressure are BAD. they are over taxing stock components. a shift kit has strong springs, better valves and u drill out areas for more/extra flow. that'll definatly quicken up the shift time. unless u go insane and install a full race shift kit they WONT HURT A DAM THING! :) |

Don't you think that if this is what made the transmission better that it would have been done all along? |
Look at everything else stock, it's not the best. Why don't we have electric fans stock? stuff like that
|
majority of the buying public dont car if the tranny takes an extra second to shift as long as its smooth and quiet.
if Ford put everything thing on a vehicle to make it better all vehicles would have 500 hp, AWD, 2,000w stereos, get 50 mpg and will drive like a caddy on the highway and carve the twisties like a road racer. or a truck would have 33" mudders, 4" suspension lift, etc... they do it for production and the general public is stupid. |
Have you tried the TPS mod? (adjusting the voltage out)
