Changing my clutch?

Okay so I've been feeding the master cylinder fluid every couple of days. My clutch just starts to go soft, but comes right back fine when I add fluid. I'm thinking I need to change the slave cylinder? I don't know if anybody else has had this problem or not, but maybe they can enlighten me. I've never changed a clutch so what do I need to know. I've done a number of things like changing brakes, working on EGR, etc. I know you have to drop the tranny for starters. From the sounds of this I better change the clutch plate, pilot bearing, etc. Maybe there's something easier I can do, but I doubt it with my luck.

Very common problem with the slave cylinder.
Use the search button at the top of the pane for it .
BUT BE SITTING DOWN.
There's probably a hundred posts for it.

Yes the trans has to come out to change it , so might as well replace the clutch and pressure plate and pilot bearing too.
The one issue people have is bleeding the system when you're done.

I'm beginning to wonder if it might be a bad master cylinder / and or lines to it??? It just leaks a lot of fluid and when fluid is put in it shifts just fine. I'm not having any difficulty in shifting.

In my experience with my truck the past almost 7 years of ownership, the slaves get changed 3:1 compared to masters. Not always due to failure, but process of elimination(bad master) or good measure since I was in there already(bad trans/engine swap). Just swap the slave...it's always a ticking timebomb.

In regards to order of operations/instructions on doing the job, get yourself a Chilton's or Haynes workshop manual. It's how I did my very first RWD clutch swap and please do search through the forum. I've posted quite a number of times very specific tips and tricks on the process.

PS: Please create a signature telling us a little about your truck....year, 4x4 or 2wd, engine, trans, mods, etc... It helps us help you.

the job is not hard to do with the right tools. it is very labor intensive though so be prepared to have some down time for a few days if you have never done one before

gotta question- my clutch wouldnt release and i bought a new slave and put it in and bled ...still no release. the first time you go to push the clutch, it has pressure, but it takes about 30-45 sec. to get that pressure back. people tell me its a pain to bleed, i just wonder what gives? i tried everything, short of buying a new master, whick i dont think it needs

i can tell u right now your slave cylinder is leaking. and im 100% sure. last may i was addin fluid to mine every time i drove it. lasted about two weeks and my slave cylinder blew

change that and problem solved. it pissed me off so i replaced my tranny, clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder and master cylinder. no reason to spend alot of money on a slave cylinder either its not gonna last a long time.
