Transmission

My transmission is in limp mode so I'm gonna be doing a trans swap. My truck right now is a 2002 automatic 4.0 4x2. I would like to put a Manual transmission in. What year of rangers could I pull a transmission from or what transmissions would bolt up to the motor. Im wanting to convert to a manual.

Welcome to the forum

You will need 2001-2011 M5OD-R1 manual transmission from 2WD with 4.0l engine
Must be 2WD and 4.0l, others won't fit
Also the 4.0l flywheel and new clutch set with master and slave

You also need the computer from 2002 Manual trans Ranger with 4.0l, 2wd or 4x4 doesn't matter for this, but you do need the KEYS with this computer, as they are matched to computer, you can have the keys re-cut to match you locks usually, you can also buy new/refreshed manual trans computer with 2 new keys
Automatics and manuals have different computers, just FYI
You can run with automatic computer, but CEL(check engine light) will be on all the time and there may be a few odd running issue

You also need the clutch/brake pedal assembly from a 2001-2005 Ranger
And floor plate and boot for stick shift

Above are required

Steering column from a manual Ranger is optional but it nice to get rid of the automatics column shifter

All and all, its better to replace the automatic, sell your Ranger and buy another Ranger that came with manual transmission if that's what you really want

Ron, the steering column for a manual isn't necessary as the automatic stuff un-bolts from the steering column assembly. The only thing you need is the upper trim piece from a manual that doesn't have the hole for automatic lever. If desired you can also install the manual key release, the threads for it are already there.

Also pedal assemblies are the same from 1995-2011, however the 2006+ versions are a little more beefed up due to cracking issues on the earlier versions.

This isn't a how-to, but this video goes over the things that I went through when swapping my truck over to a manual.
