True Duals, need to restore back pressure.
Hey,
I'm new to the forum. Just purchased a 94 Mazda B4000 (Ranger), and I Inherited a few problems. It's a 4.0L and it has true duals, no cats, with a 40 series on it.
The truck seems sluggish to say the least, and I'm thinking it needs back pressure. I have the stock intake with a K&N filter, I'm assuming that is adequate for the air in.
It sounds great and the tips look great. The Installation looks fantastic (very clean).
I'd rather not cut the exhaust up if I don't have to but...
Any Ideas? i was thinking some sort of tip or pipe insert?

I'll post some pics tomorrow, left my data cord at work. I checked out the Superstrapp slip ons, trying not to replace my mufflers. I noticed they had a disc only attachment. the 4" would be appropriate, I guess i would remove the tips on it now, attach them to the 2.5" pipe and find a larger tip to slide over them for aesthetics?
If you can't tell, I'm trying to be cost effective, and a solution that would preserve the current exhaust system and boost the back pressure is the most agreeable solution. This looks like it'll run me about 300. A little much for me at the moment considering other things I need to take care of on the truck, but something to consider.

^^ i fought myself not to say this but just couldnt... if he understood his "exhaust principles" he would probally know what his problem is and would not have made a post asking a question for opinions on what to do in a forum.. the guy asked a simple question ... no need to shoot him down man

I Had a Mitsubishi Mighty Max in High School, I thought i was cool , and being rediculous... I threw corvette side pipes on it. It went from a great running mini truck to a sluggish lump of metal. A four cylinder with dual exhaust. I was rediculous. To fix the problem. and keep my "awesome" look, I found some oil filter nutz about three inches in diameter, and mounted them in the tips. Help the issue, but sounded like a fart machine. Finally wised up and threw a cherry bomb on it. I guess what I'm saying is I know it is important it extreme Measures, is it the problem here, maybe. Is it worth screwing up the current exhaust, i dunno, brought some pics tonight. lemme upload them.

Cidepipes,
You should have leaned from the Mitsubishi, large pipe slow velocity.
What has happened is just what Jp7 stated, the exhaust was opened up, Mufflers, no Cats and probably larger ID Pipes not to mention the duals, when combined will reduce volumetric efficiency, unless there is a corresponding increase in the engine intake and performance.
Thinking on it maybe replace just the tail pipes; add a reducer and smaller ID tail pipes, this might increase the back-pressure some.
