Sorry for the thread jack, but I have been looking for a daily driver. What I am thinking, is buy a Explorer with a 5.0L and swap that into my truck, and then swap my SOHC into the Explorer. Is this a little over the top? Any input?

Couldn't tell you had a 5speed.

Spend your time on the heads, the lower intake is ok. It does need a little work around the injector bosses.

Research here, TRS, and RPS. There should be tons of info for you to read up on. I can tell you this. Dont plan on doing a set of used heads. The stockers tend to crack between valves.

I got you beat on the used intake, have had one for a about 2 years. Then I found this 5.0 a year ago, its still in the expo taking up space. I need to finish pulling it and get rid of the donor. To bad it doesn't have axles/wheels anymore.

It sounds like alot of work, but having a 5.0 daily is nice. I really like having the power, and my mileage is just about par with most of the 4.0 guys.

i don't mind the thread jack, same topic anyways... one guy on 1 of the ranger boards i am on emailed me some pics as a guide when i do finally decide to port my lower.. have thought of getting the older aluminum upper to be able to port the upper but doubt worth the hassle... i am not sure but i believe there is a company that makes aftermarket heads for the 4.0 ohv? mine were cracked when i bought my ranger ( another issue in itself) i assume the most are do with the heads is port, 5 angle valve job ( larger valves i think are out of the question) and possibly mill the head ..i have a spare lower and will have spare heads if i go this route
