Horsepower TV: E3 spark plugs add 5-7 horsepower
i was watching an episode of Horsepower TV on sunday. the guys up there tested spark plugs and they had a little apparatus that they could put the spark plugs in to make them spark and actually see the vizible spark. It was very noticible that the E3 plugs had a great spark. next they put them in an engine on the dyno (it wasnt in a car, just hooked up in the shop to the computer). First they tested a regular spark plug, then they put in the E3. the dyno for the engine showed an increse in like 5-7HP!!!(id dont reemeber exaclty how much but it was between those numbers!)
now i dont know if this applys just to thos hopped up engines, or if you can actually get this kind of gain on a 4.0 or 3.0....i may try these when i switch plugs at 50k. i dk yet....what do yall think about their test?

makes sense, i just dont see a plug giving that much extra HP....thanks guys im def running motorcraft plugs. they're so dang expensive though (like 5 or six dollars a plug here if not more at advance

X2, i saw that episode this weekend and laughed at the E3 plug statement. ill stick with my motorcraft. did you see they also put a throttle body spacer in it at the same time? ha ha

You have to question how advertising dollars influenced the outcome on this. it wouldn't be too hard to overgap the stock plugs to create missfires, which would make the new plugs look better. I've seen the TV shows see gains on spark plugs, tornado, and fuel catalyst. I tend to doubt all three.
My readings on ignition are this- a properly tuned ignition is good for 3-5 HP tops. That is assuming the stock ignition is fresh. Tuning involves gapping the plugs till they missfire, then backing them back down from that point. When you push the plugs to the limit like this, you probably have to regap every 20,000 miles since the gaps get bigger with time.

We just got a sales sheet for these new plugs at the parts store, can't remember what brand, but they were 24.99 a plug. For that price they better install themselves. I watched the episode with the charger police car and they showed the E3's saying their dyno motor gained 8hp from the swap. Think it was a 4.6 though.

you can shoot me later, but
well, you can all shoot me later but I bought these last week, will install them this week and see what they do. I've had the bosch +4 for about 2 weeks before they went to **** and I lost about 2 mpg. changed back to good ol champions and mpg went back to normal. I just wanted to see if these were any good, unlike the bosch the E3's do have a good sized electrode (1/16"+) so it shouldnt foul as quick, wich is what I think happened with the bosch as the center electrode is about the size of a hair.

If it's 5-7hp on a 400+hp engine...you will barely see anything on a lil ole ranger motor. On top of that, you can run the same engine in the same conditions on the same day and see 5-7hp variation. Especially with the big ole motors they like to test on those shows. Now if they did 3-4 runs with OEM plugs and 3-4 runs with the new plugs and the AVERAGE was 5-7hp higher then it would be a somewhat credible test. But again, you're probably talking about a much more powerful motor than we have. Exhaust and intake really does add 15+hp when the motor is already making a ton of power and is restricted. On our trucks exhaust and intake might give a little bit of placebo seat in the pants.
But if anything a more efficient burn means less carbon build up and less pollutants and neither are a bad thing.

Well, Ive had these in for about 2 weeks now and drove a little over 1000 miles. Ive only seen about a .2 to .3 mpg increase over the old plugs wich is not much more than I would expect from just replaceing the plugs with the same type. But at least it hasnt dropped in mpg like the bosch did! I cant really tell any difference in HP as id expected. I have the 4.10 rear end so any driving on the highway at 80+ means im at 3g on the tach, so basically im guzzling gas.
