Help Please

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Guys I Have A Problem With My Ranger... So The Smog Is Due And My Check Engine Light Is On... I Took It In And It Failed Of Course So They Said That The Code Said That My Truck Had Some Sort Of Lean, Which Is Supposely Related To The Motor Not Pulling Sufficient Gas... So Then I Thought That Maybe By Getting A Tune Up It Would Fix It But It Didnt... And To Make Things Worse When I Turn My Truck On And Leave It Just Running For A Lil Bit, I Start Feeling The Truck Like Shaking.. It Is Some Kind Of Rocking Motion From Side To Side Not Severe But I Am Able To Notice It... So Can Somebody Help Me By Telling Me If This Has Ever Happen To One Of You Guys And What Exactly Did You Have To Do To Fix It... Im Seriously Worried Just Since My Ranger Its My Only Car And I Use It For Everyday Things... Any Help Is Very Appreciated Thanksss...

It only takes 5-10 minutes

I'd say you have a decent sized vacuum leak. The lean codes and the rough idle are tell-tale signs of this.

It could be as simple as a bad vacuum hose. Or maybe intake manifold gaskets (which seem to be common problems on 4.0L rangers)

Yeh first please dont type in caps. It is very hard to read.

Did the shop give you the actual code? Like P0141 or something. That can help us tell you what is wrong with your truck since it can be a number of things. Also throwing parts at it can be a huge waste of money and time consuming having your ranger down. I recomend spending $100 to get your truck DIAGNOSED from a reputable shop. They can tell you exactly what is wrong. Since it is a vacume leak, they can hook up a smoke machine to it and basically find out where the leak is. If its just a vacume line, you can go to any local auto parts store, buy 3-4 ft of line, and replace them yourself.

Its super easy, pull one line off, measure it out, cut a new one, and replace it and go to the next. Dont pull them all off at once or it will be a huge PITA to but them back on.

If its a intake manifold gasket leak (which is very common) then that will depend on how comfortable you are with working on your truck. The only special tools you need is a torque wrench and a E7 socket. Other than that it is just your basic socket set and a lot of time. Let us know how it goes.

Yeh it sounds like it is fixed. Have you cleared the code by disconnecting your battery or using a code reader? If for some reason it was leaking elsewhear, you would throw your CEL again. I say go get your truck smoged now. It should pass.
