Need Help Possibly on a fuel issue
Hey guys,
so once again I am having issues with my truck. It is now beginning not to start. It has something to do with the fuel pump or fuel system. As I put it in the ON position I am not hearing the fuel pump turn on. I cycle the key on and off a few times and then I hear it prime and it starts. I checked the relay and swapped relays and it still did not fix it. All my gauges and lights work in the dash so I don't think it is the ignition switch. I am leaning towards it being a dying fuel pump. Anyone had any similar issues?? Before spending 435 on replacing it, I would like to get feedback first.

When my fuel pump was going out I went up to AutoZone and borrowed a fuel pressure tester. It's a pretty simple procedure to test it, might require a strong stomach however as there will be gas fumes as you tighten it on the schrader valve.
My fuel pump was indeed bad, it's a pretty easy fix though. Remove the bed, pull the old pump out, put new pump in, replace the bed. Takes like 10 minutes, the pump was about $150 I believe and came with a nice warranty. You can probably find it cheaper online. The guys at AutoZone gave me a hand with lifting the bed on and off so it was a good deal in the end.
The fuel pump failing is pretty common with these pickups. They're exposed to the elements because they're placed between the bed and cab, allowing weather to deteriorate the critical components that connect the pump to the vehicle.
Keep in mind that running any vehicle with less than 1/4 tank of fuel consistently (think Great Recession + gas prices a few years ago) will slowly damage the fuel pump over time. Also, I believe the ethanol in most of the gasoline you'll find is not good for the pump either.

the newer fuel pumps are ethenol resistant
so you will need to buy fuel pump for the year 2009 and newer
the older style of fuel line hoses will need to be replaced as well , these include the hoses from the fuel pump to the fuel filter , and the hose from the engine frame rail to the engine fuel rail

Did you change the fuel pump or the entire assembly?
