water pump
Is there anyway to replace the bearings in the water pump or do I have to replace the whole water pump assembly.
I have been getting a horrible squeel from the truck and when I took the serpentine belt off the truck and free wheeled the fan I heard what sounded like a meow sound coming from the fan clutch, so I put a new one on and it still makes that sound, just not as lound. |
Just replace the water pump==fairly easy to do.

Funny Ranger Dan, get the kitty off your engine. Mrrrow!
And yeah, You'll have to remove the pump fully, and Im pretty sure you cant jsut change the bearing... when it gets light out I can take a peek at my old water pump I replaced about a month ago. |
I think that I am just going to replace the whole assembly just because it can hurt not to.

The whole pump needs to be replaced.

A water pump bearing is pressed into its housing. And sometimes we inject nylon or use a snap ring to make sure it does'nt move. Even if you could remove and install a new bearing w/o brinelling it.. you as joe consumer can't buy the bearing you need. About your only choices is to buy a used one or a "new" one. (sometimes re-man)
Also, a word to the wise in aftermarket water pumps. Buy an OEM replacement aka "service part". Even if it costs more. Go this route and save yourself a lot of potential headaches. btw, I was a WP/FEAD engineer HERE for 6 years. (Back then we were the worlds largest WP manufacturer. Both OEM and aftermarket) Rich |
