weird sound
today i changed my oil... after i finished i started the truck back up and noticed a little different sound. its not a crunching, or a metal-to-metal sound, but its almost like a fluttering or a clicking. i dont really know if the sound was there before or not, but can only hear it if you are underneath the truck, or to the side of the truck. i made sure the oil filter was tight, and checked the oil to make sure everything was cool, and there are no leaks. i even drove it to the bank, to work, and back home with no problems and no leaking. but do yall think its normal..?. and im just retarded. thx for any help

could you hear it when you stood in front of the truck? if so, it may just be your heater or air conditioner.

Do this..
Have someone else sit in your truck. put your head in your passengers side wheel well.. Have them SLOWLY take the vehical from IDLE to about 1500 RPM's. See if the sound of it increases or becomes more frequent. I have an idea what it might be but.. don't want to look like an ass if its not right ( Yes, D keeping a comment to himself for once! ). Valve train noise? Thought that was a problem with the 4.0
|
well i got my buddy to rev up to 1500 while i listened... and the noise kind of goes away as the rpm level goes up. but ive also noticed that the noise is NOT consistent, so really.... im at a loss as to what it is, but ive drove it aroundfor a couple of days now with no problems. ive just gotta keep an eye on it. thx for the help

Turn off the A/C and see if it still does it. My A/C compressor is dying and the truck sounds like a diesel with the A/C on at idle. Turn it off or increase RPMs an it is smooth as silk.

My 3.0 sounds like a diesel idling but it doesn't matter if the AC is on or off. With the AC on, the diesel sound is more pronounced though. My truck, from day one, has sounded like a diesel at idle. Normal driving w/ AC on/off or increasing the RPMs makes the sound go away...Any idea what that could be? |
This is happening to me. A fluttering sound that gets louder and faster as the rpm goes up. What is it?

could possibly be raditaor fan hitting shroud? just a guess? so as wind picks up the shroud gets moved around so off and on clicking?
Or rubber rock blockers inside wheel well the keep rocks and sand from getting to engine flapping in wind? idk just guesses |
my tbird started doing that out of the blue and it ended up being the retaining clip on the lifter.... it just came off

What weight oil did you use ?
Ford recommends 5-20 not 10-20 or 10-30, just 5-20. I have found when you use a different weight oil you can get a ticking in the lifter/rocker area. Hearing it under the truck might be becasue the engine bay is open to the ground and not to the sides. luck |
i like when nobody has said this post is from 2005 lol
|
it could be 5w30 for him though cuz we dont no what engine he has... its an 02

The OP was a while back but someone added a question.
