What 4.0s are interchangeable

What 4.0s are interchangeable
Just bought a 2001 b4000 that needs a motor. I know I need another SOHC 4.0 but what years are interchangeable for a direct swap.

If looking at used then you want a 2004 -2011 4.0l SOHC , they have the newer designed tensioners and guides
You should plan on swapping upper intake from old to new engine, its to match wire connectors, you have to take that off to lift engine in any case
Always replace rear main seal when any engine is out
On the 4.0l SOHC also replace Knock Sensor, under intake manifold
4.0l SOHC is IDed by VIN code "E" in the Rangers and B4000
"X" is the older 4.0l OHV
Explorers and Mountaineers also used the 4.0l SOHC until 2010 and Mustangs used this engine 2005-2010 but you would need to swap oil pans
