exhaust question (not the typical one though)

so i was under my truck doing an oil change, and i found a dent on the drivers side exhaust pipe before the Y near the front drive shaft. is this supposed to be there for clearance of the front shaft?

I'm pretty sure its supposed to be there.

Yea i saw that dent in my 06 a while ago and never got around to asking bout it. Good to know it is suppose to be there. Does anyone thik it would cause any real restriction??
