4.0 vs 4.3

my mom has a 1997 gmc jimmy with the 4.3 and an auto. and it sure as hell feels a lot faster than my 1998 3.0 5 speed. how is the power of the 4.3 compare to the ranger 4.0......just curious to see how much more it has that mine but i have never driven one to compare. thanks.

they are pretty equal. Both had their low hp and higher hp years. I had the higher HP model s-10 with the cpi injection. It ran low 16's in the 1/4 mile, same as my 4.0 sohc ranger.

id say they are very close. the SOHC 4.0 has more horses but the 4.3 power comes in sooner. the 4.3 is a great motor too and responds well to mods. but i do know that my ranger with the SOHC 4.0 will walk all over my wifes blazer with the 4.3 vortec. i put my truck up against my buddys 2002 4.3 sonoma at the dirt drags a few years back and i beat him by a truck length but his was faster out of the hole.

Didn't the 4.3 have torque mainly over hp ? Least that's what I thought I had heard. I'd like to get a 1/4 mile time for my truck but not close to any tracks. Id say 0-60 with my 4.0 is in the 6-7 second range.
