RPM's climb between shifts

Have a 2005 4.0 liter 4x4, 5 speed manual that intermittently has issues with the rpm's climbing between shifts, sometimes climbing to 2500 to 3000 rpm's when I step on the clutch. Had a mechanic friend clean the mass air flow sensor and the problem went away for a while, then returned. I've cleaned the MAS numerous times and this still helps, only for a short time. The truck has 120,000 miles, has no codes showing on the scanner. Do I need to replace the MAS or is it the idle air control valve or throttle position sensor or does something need to be cleaned? Tried searching the archives w/o success. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same issue on a 2002. Usually RPM's hang around 2000 until I slow down to under 10MPH.
