Wierd feeling....

For a good while now, like a year I guess, when going my truck seems to jerk a little when going at a constant speed. I posted about this before, and was told to maybe change the fuel filter because of maybe bad feed of fuel or something. I changed it about 2000 miles ago and no change. It happens when going at a constant speed at low rpms, mostly at slower speeds (<40 mph), its an auto.
Not that it can really happen, but it feels like a gear is not circular and every second or so it just jerks forward a little for a few seconds then goes away. I have no idea what it could be, maybe a broken tranny, lol. It runs fine other than that, and only has 40 some k miles.
Any opinions of what it could be, no real problem, maybe it is?

FoMoCoFiddy 11-06-2005 11:30 AM

do the rpms go up when it happens?

rideac1 11-06-2005 12:17 PM

nope, just feels like something mechanically loose or worn or something in the drivetrain

Thats weird because i have kinda felt something like this lately too...idk i could just be me though.

It probably isn't just you, lol. I think someone else mentioned it one time or another too. I have no idea what it could be.

It sounds like an engine surge wich can cause an uneven power sensation, especially at lower RPMS and low road speeds like 25~45 mph. There will be little or no change in the tachometer reading. This can happen from lean A/F mixture, too much EGR flow or sluggish oxygen sensor response.

Another possibility is that the torque converter clutch is being applied and released. This will show an RPM change on the tach of about 100~200 rpm when it occurs at light throttle.

are you sure it is a jerking, back and forth motion? i have a small bounce/hobble problem at 36-39 mph, on blacktop/asphault, and steady speeds. Didn't notice it intill cranked t-bars, body lift, and 33's. If i have a passenger, or something equally as heavy, isn't there. wierd.
Check your driveshaft angles though, could be some very slight binding.

It started happening way before I cranked my t-bars, and I have no body lift and I have 31's. It sounds like something with the air/fuel as previously mentioned. I thought about getting a new cold air intake soon, we'll see if it changes it. Right now I have a modded airbox which is probably causing it.
And there is NO change in rpm's at all, it happens mostly from 30-40mph I think and does happen up to 60.

My truck started doing the same thing after i modded my airbox to. I wonder if this has anything to do with it? I think i might go and reverse it to see if it helps. ( Just seen how old this thread is)

Its ok man. I think mine still does once in a while. It's no big deal and nothing is broken or going wrong, so I have no problem with it or reason to fix it.

Alex98 07-15-2007 06:37 PM

it happens to me as well but i dont like to have anything wrong with my vehicles, when you do 0-60 it doesnt do it but at slow steady speeds it happens i put in new spark plugs and it runs better but still does it, the fuel filter, i put in azz loads of fuel injector cleaner, but still no improvement

rideac1 07-16-2007 05:54 AM

I think mine happens somewhere in the range of 30-45 MPH. I also changed my spark plugs over 20K miles ago, as well as a fuel filter about a year ago, neither showed any help.

Alex98 07-17-2007 02:52 PM

lol what on earth could it be my check engine light just came on so it might give me an insight to what the problem is

4LO 4.0 07-17-2007 04:18 PM

Mine still has not thrown a code, and i put the airbox back together and no change. Like you stated earlier i don`t like anything wrong with my truck also so i really would like to solve this problem, Let us know what you find out and if it fixes this problem. good luck

rideac1 07-18-2007 07:17 AM

Mine has never thrown a code because of this. If 4LO 4.0 put the airbox back on and the problem didn't change, I have no idea. I figured if anything the modded up box was messing with the air-fuel ratio and causing it to be inconsistent.

Interceptor944 10-01-2007 06:34 AM

My 3.0 started doing this recently...Not very often but enough to say what the heck!? Usually around 30 to 50 mph. Like a surge or jerk with a little loss of power. Rpm's stay the same. I'm only at 46,000 miles so I will keep an eye on it and will be changing the fuel filter and other items soon.

kyledm18 10-01-2007 06:43 AM

mine dod it for a while then it stopped i have a 3.0

rideac1 11-27-2007 02:58 PM

I made this post over 2 years ago, and mine still does it. As we all said, it's nothing worry about I think, but just something stupid to complain about, haha.
