in layman`s terms

the longer stroke of the crankshaft ,, the more torque the engine generates

a-lot ford people just switch their 302 parts over to the 351 windsor block

If you are on a tight budget like most of us you can alway rebuild the short block and top it with a set of gt40 heads and intake off an explorer with the right cam (i would go custom) will make a nice low end torque motor. I dont know of anyone that makes a complete kit for low end torque.

Think he means swap performance head and cam over to a 351w. Could be wrong tho.

So you got the money for these kits to try and get a 5.0 pushn 350hp. But why buy the motor you did? Also better move to bigger axles. What's wrong with your 4.0? Its all in gearing my friend.

The reason I bought the engine that i did we because I did not do enough research. After tearing in to the engine tho I did find out that it is a roller cam. not the flat tappet.

But I would prefer to have a V8 under the hood and have more torque

The 4.0 makes great torque stock, just mod it some and it will rip. Just tryn to save you some headaches and money. That could be spent on badass 4x4 stuff. Like a sick t-case that will give you more damn torque than all this motor ****. Just my .02

So I just got off the blower with Edelbrock. Surprisingly enough..... he says seeing as how it is going to be going in a truck that is going to be primarily used for rock crawling. I should keep it stock.if anything just do the exhaust, and timing gear. And if I really wanted to to play with the heads to put a set of there performer 5.0's on.

Yeah like I was sayn, its not the motor but the gearing. Kinda what he is getn at. Just rebuild it and some simple bolt ons and yer good. But even then its about the same as yer 4.0. Just sounds better heh. What year is yer truck again?

the cheapest way to make more torque is swap the camshaft

you can always port the heads at a later date

Started coming on V-8 explorers and mounties in 1995 and went to 2001 i believe, the 1995-early 1997 came with the standard GT40 head, however in mid-late 1997 they came out with the GT-40P heads which flow even better, but have a revised spark plug location, which requires a different exhaust manifold/header

Whoot! lol, i know the feeling man, i roomed with a couple 5.0 guys in college, it was a weekend by weekend basis picking up the go-fast parts, if you take your time and build it right, you will be pretty impressed with the outcome.

go for 5.7L injectors from an injected 351w

any programmer can adjust the fuel map ( duration of injector cycle )

they are 19lb injectors ( i think )

look for the truck injectors ,, they are more flow because of load capability

pretty sure there is even stroker kits for them. I remember there was a place to get a 3.0 stroker kit at one time. There are plenty of parts for the 4.0 if you want to get into it. Might want to talk to the street truck ranger guys who mod the crap out of there 4.0s

getting the motor together will be easy, wiring will be not so fun
