4.6 in a ranger

aight guys i got a 96 cobra motor, trans, ecm and harness for 600 bucks. i was wondering if anyone has put this combo in a ranger. if so how hard would it be.

I saw one with it one time, but the 4.6 is so big that it is hard for everything to fit. He didn't have a lot of stuff hooked up. I think it's the heads on it that are so vagiant, don't quote me on that though

302 is easier

its gonna be a late 80s ranger. yeah thats what i was thinkin they r really wide and bein a DOHC motors its gonna be tough.

been done on RPS before looks good too...


its not to big there is a ranger at my work with a 5.4L in it LOL

And a whole lot of BFH to the firewall!

Is this gonna be a drag strip truck or a show truck? It can be done pretty easily if it doesn't have to look pretty... Otherwise I'd get REALLY good at welding sheet metal!

since its an older ranger it will be easier to fit. but there is still going to be alot of work. check out the threads on here or RPS. you'll find a good lot of info

Not necessarily. The steering box is not in a good location on th e older rangers for a 4.6L.

If you don't have the Ranger for the project yet, do yourself a favor and get a '98-up 2wd with coil springs in the front. The 4.6 dohc fits without modding the frame, firewall, or suspention. You'll have to make motor mounts, headers, move the steering shaft a little, and mod the HVAC box. You'll most likely lose the AC. Everything else under the hood remains in it's stock location.

true, either way its gona take some work to get it in any year
