Nah, 302's are more than enough for a Ranger off road. I've yet to have a complaint with mine, no matter how sticky the situation I never bog.

I know plenty of guys who are playing with midly built 302's in fullsizes yanking the guys with the 502's out of the crate.

define enough. your 300 plus hp? i run mild 302 for 15 years...tuned from 260-330 hp

the low end is quite different from a stock 351 to any 302 up to 270-300 hp.

300 hp 302 is far from any drop in stock offering though.

compared back to back no way one would prefer a 302 over a 351 in a fat bastard truck. 35 in tires/lifted.

i had that attitude till i rn them directly back to back. same economy but more responsive with a 351 with 35 in tires on the road. i love my 302's but they are short past 33 in tires unless you have some cash into them.

this is all things equal stock drop in swap...which is the application at hand here.

After you get it in allowing for the extra length of the F150 trans, the headers will need to be custom not only to bolt up at the correct angle but fit the frame too; those should cost some.
There may be interference with the steering shaft and the Heater Box will almost need to be cut in half for the higher block design of the 351.

Chk out Duff’s Bronco, maybe they have some of the stuff made already.

Oh ya, over your head, if you are a mechanic you should be able to do it but there will be some challenges on the add-on parts.
The 5.0L may be the same as others but it fit with less work and can have all the power you will need off-roading or drag racing.

He give me the truck so I got to thinking everyone puts 5.0s in rangers can't be that different or can it? My problem so far is trans issues.. I hate automatics and want it to stay 5 spd. Will I have to change computers with the donor being auto? And what is a good 5 spd for this project?
Hey Borncountry…

How’s this going, any progress, did you decide on using the 5.8L ?

Where did you end up ?
