97 mercury mountaineer 5.0 swap to 2002 3.0 xlt ranger 2x4

Just bought a 97 merc mountaineer for the motor to swap into my 02 ford ranger. just wondering what kind of issues I will be running into. if anyone has some suggestions please let me know. also what would be a good automatic trans that will work with my setup

The '97 lets you avoid PATS issues, but adds a fuel pressure/return issue. More than a fair trade in my opinion.

Stick with the Mounty/Expo 4R70W transmission, keeps the PCM happy and is a very well though for a slush box.

Check out my 'lessons learned thread" on putting a 96 Expo into my 02 Ranger, covers most of the issues you'll hit with the exceptionally similar '97.
