98 Ranger Swap inquiries

I own a 98 Ranger with the 1 minute-to-pass 2.5L. I used to have a 98 Durango with the 5.9L and twin turbo. Needless to say, I slid into somebody due to the ground having oil on it. No money for me, truck completely totaled, and getting completely f-ed over. Lol. Basically....I miss my fast as truck. I know there is tons of stuff out there on this stuff, but I'm looking to possibly do an older 5.0 swap or an 89 5.8L bronco swap. My bronco has no title, but she is an off road beast. Looking to convert it to diesel, so I'll have 5.8L guts laying around. My 5.8L has tons of power and I am thinking if its stuck into a lighter weight car/truck, it'll show more. Is this something that sounds like a good idea? I also have 88 Lincoln 5.0L parts laying around. I'm looking to spend as little as possible, so using what I have is a plus. Any advice would be grand.

Possibly have a 99 5.0L explorer from gf's brother. Still working on details, so I'll kinda leave it out for now.

With a 2wd you will need motor plates to fit any engines in the list as the expo parts are direct fit for 4wds. If you are up for custom headers and rewiring the truck the 5.8 is a good choice.

Update: I'm going to do the 5.8L swap and I will be swapping in an E40D 2wd tranny. I have the 8.8 rear end right now and I'll prolly leave it at that. The ranger being used is the one in my pic. I need to replace the ghetto lowering that it was given by the previous owners so the swap workable better. So new leaf springs, coil springs, ball joints, and shocks/struts. Then I'll rebuild the 5.8L 351w with some better parts and paint it all. Same with trans. I will be putting a cowl on the hood, swapping out the steering, etc etc. Any more thoughts or part upgrade ideas?? I'll have a more straightforward list in the next couples days. Prolly gonna do a build thread too. Pics included. I also have access to a cheap machinist friend. :)

The E4od will be a tight fit in the ranger tunnel, you may need to cut and patch the floor.

Then maybe a 2wd C6? This is gonna be a drag build for street and strip. I like having the manual and I can shift like a madman, but I bet it would be harder to get the manual tranny hooked up to the stick. I've read mixed results regarding the manual to automatic. I am looking for the easiest to swap in. I can run either on the track.

The c6 is the same thing. Whats the big deal with the possibility of needing to trim the floor?

Umm...I have both a C6 and E4od and they are NOT the same thing. Lol. I wanted the E4od cause it has one more gear and might put up with dragging longer than a C6. Possibly cause I really don't feel like redoing my already custom interior just to make a tranny fit. Lol.

The c6 will actually take more abuse than an E4od. The e4od has weak electronics to it. The c6 will cost 1/4 to build and take more abuse. On the track you are better off with a trans that has 3 gears to run though and you wont be needing the lock up T/C either.

Ah tis is true about the second part. Point taken. I'll just stick with my full on Bronco guts then. What about the rear end, is there any need to upgrade that? Pretty sure I already have a good one. Total this whole build may cost 1k at the most. :) I'm happy about that. Then I can do my diesel swap with the Bronco. Haha!!

No, odds are you have a 7.5 and that will grenade. Find an 8.8 from an explorer. Can get either 4.10s or 3.73 and also disc brakes

Diesel bronco?

It's the 89 donor Bronco from above post. I haven't quite decided what diesel yet. I enjoy a late 90's 5.9L cummins or an early Powerstroke. Haven't decided which was to go honestly. It's still in the plan making due to losing the Durango. I had that swap planned down to the tee.

7.3 PSD is a bolt in mostly. Cummins is a bolt in also but not as factory, it is one wire hook up but you are still gonna run into space issues with fan/radiator. I love my 7.3s to death but the electronics are tough unless you know the system rather well

Ya. That's my thing is the electronics. I can work out space issues, but electronics give me the go around. Lol!! I'm probably gonna cozy on up to the 7.3L for this. Just need to find the donor and kinda work it from there.
