www.rangerpowersports.com and www.harwoodperformance.com are some sites you should search around for the swap.

You SHOULD invest in purchasing the Harwood Performance Ranger V8 swap manual. It covers everything you could think of.

So I am guessing you guys don't have emission laws in TX? Like the one where the engine has to be out of a same year or newer vehicle or a crate motor. I'd be careful doing this, I am not sure what would happen if your state adopted that law and then you can't drive your truck b/c you can't register it.

That...or they'd have to fork over the money for the crate motor...either way, that sucks...we;;, the crate motor would be nice, but more $$$

So whatever happened to the swap...May has come and gone

Well just to update the peoplz, my 302 H.O. is out of the donor car, i also bought a 81 toyota that had a 351, i got it for the tranny it is an auto, with an aluimin t-case.
Funny thing though, on the top of the bellhousing of the tranny is the number 73 that is casted, does anyone know what it means?.
Lets see.....i checked the compression on the 302.....125 psi
Next, i will need to enter the ranger in the garage and remove the 4.0L then test fit the 302.

It is a 1994 splash 5 speed, the 302 H.O. is E.F.I, and i got a buddie that said he would do the wiring for me, it dont seem to hard to do but i dont want to mess anything up.
Here is a pic of the donor motor, it will look a lot better once i get it all painted up, the bulk of the work on this project will be done this coming fall and winter.

I have like 5 complete 5.0 HOs lying around but I want one from an explorer. I've heard the explorer swap is a lot smoother.

Depends on the year of the truck. 98+ Rangers accept the Explorer 302 with the least hassles. 97-back, like Unique458 has, use a different front suspension and frame and readily accept a variety of properly configured small block Fords. A few companies make adapter parts to make the 97-back installation easier.

If you also swap in the 5.0 Explorer's 4R70W automatic and the AWD transfer case, yes, you get AWD. I've heard that you can bolt up the Ranger part-time 4WD T/C to the 4R70W instead. Not sure about that, though.
