I did a 5.0L EFI w/C-4 in an ’88 STX Short Bed.
Used L&L Kit; All the components are top shelf parts; heaviest metal, best finish, good fit, a little pricey but you get what you pay for.
I used a ’93 w/5-sp as a donor for the engine and computer harness, the C-4 was aftermarket.

why not just find a fox body with a 5.0 and t5 and swap that in. then you get your 5 speed swap and everything right there

Justin, that's what my truck started with. 93 mustang motor and wiring. Harness is very easy because it is independent of the chassis harness. AOD is fine but needs a little work, mainly due to the finickyness of the throttle cable.

My thought is to get an automatic/5.0L setup with the AOD and use as much of it as possible; engine, trans, computer and harness.
The 93 Stang that I used had a separate engine computer harness and it laid in the Ranger engine bay just like it was made for it.
I think ’94 changed some but not sure of years.
I believe the 1st Gens also had a separate engine harness, that is why it went in so easy.

I did it in mine. Really a piece of cake. My donor motor came out of a either 86 or 88 thunderbird. I am running EFI and an AOD. Personally, I would much rather have a C4, but its all up to you in the end.

As far as the actual swap, it was sooo easy. I think we only spliced about 5 wires to make it run, now if you want everything to work correctly, Im not saying you won't have to do some more. But that is all we did. Being my truck is always a work in progress.

Yea their not terrible, but the AOD just isn't a performance oriented trans imo. With a couple upgrades they are beef but its not cheap. You should shoot for a cheap JY build for it. 89-92 Mustang or Lincoln bottom end (Forged), then run the GT40 explorer heads and intake and your looking at a solid 260 flywheel horsepower. Fun little street truck, especially that light.
