Which is the best engine harness for a 5.0L swap ?

Does year make any difference ?

What if we are not concerned with emissions ?


My situation is this...

2003 Ford Ranger EDGE.
New 5.0L but build around '93 5.0L specs.
Manual trans
Manual T/C
Only concern is engine running properly.

 

Is the Motor gonna be a H.O. base? if so a fox mustang harness, or a lincoln mark Vii. Or is it truck 302 base? like explorer or f150?

 

Brand new motor I built based on a '93 Stang engine.

 

2wd or 4wd? 2wd use the stock fox harness, if 4wd, id go with a 5.0 exploder style

 

Here’s the rub… 4WD BUT, engine will be stand alone, no other electronics to control.
It is an 03 but there will be no need for all the rest of the controlling through the computer.
Manual T/C and Trans, both on their own no computers there.

I did a search on the web for OEM Harnessing for 5.0L Conversions.
All responses lead back to RJM and from the searches the RJM is as close to OEM as you can get. They also sell all of the senses and connectors if needed.


Does anyone know if Ford is still selling their Universal Harnesses and where to buy, maybe a discount ?

 

Thats great, only prob is gotta watch out for limp mode if the computer does not see a tranny, that can be compensated either by the aftermarket harness if it has provisions for that, or trick the computer with a stock harness

 

Not sure on this but if I use a '93 style computer it should work without any connections to the trans or t/c.

My '88 Ranger STX, 5.0L, C4-auto trans worked on a manual computer, so I am really hoping I can get away with it.

 

Thats the thing, a auto will work with a 5 speed comp, that computer doesnt have trans bs to worry about.

 

OK then I need to remember that for the new computer.
I have contacted RJM and asked what to do, what is needed for a full harness, sensor, etc, package of everything to make the engine run and work as stated above.
Hopefully tomorrow I will get an answer.

The only other things i can think of are, and i assume you know the usuals, Custom headers, All the conversion stuff, Im not too familiar with the new rangers but, in my setup, i had to wack out most of the heating system and get creative to make it work again lol

 

I am settling on the Ford Racing EFI Harness but I will need to get the '93 Mustang Computer, I think model #9L, if anyone happens to know of a good one around.

 

Computer won't go into limp mode over the auto transmission not being there, on an explorer ECU anyway. I have an M50D 5 Speed in mine using explorer computer with no problem. Just have to cut and splice two wires to fool it into thinking it's in neutral, and even if you don't rewire there are still no problems other than a slight hesitation every once in awhile at low RPM. No limp mode on mine tho, runs awesome
