Engine swap

Okay people, I have a question for you. I may be able to purchase a (according to the seller) 289ci. V-8 for $500.00... He says it has a blower on it, but, then again, this guy also says he saw Bigfoot. So, here's the question. Will said engine fit in my 2005 Ranger FX4 Level II, and, what will I need to do to make it work?

Any help is most certainly appreciated. If I don't put the engine in my truck, my dad may see if he can stuff it into his '53 *****'s jeep.

Yeah...by the time it started running you could of made a beast of a 302. If you really want to do an engine swap look at the 5.0L out of the mustangs. That 289 will just be a waste.

What would I have to do in order to drop one of those 5.0 Mustang engines in it? Would it be more cost effective to just install a performance chip, and, do some little minor things to wake that 4.0L V-6 up? I know I could probably get more ponies out of her, I'd be happy with another 50...

We all know the V-8 would be lots more fun, but, my money tree died some time ago.

The 302 will still be a ton of work, lots and lots of wiring differences, custom gauges, etc, etc

Yeah. Compaired to that Carb. 289...its easier. Unless its EFI, which im guessing for $500.00 it's not.

There ARE products out for the 4.0, but compaired to a 5.0 EFI those mods do little. 5.0's have thousands of parts for them. There is going to be work involved in the swap, no way around that.

Crap, I kind of had that notion in the back of my head. Sucks. How come having fun is so expensive? Maybe I'll just install a performance chip and dual exhaust, squeeze a few extra horses out of that V-6. I'll help my dad build that *****'s into a monster...let him spend all his money.

BUT...the 5.0 efi swap is actually more simpler to swap in and get running compared to the SBF carb engine....on '04+ trucks...i'm completely unsure if there's even anyone out there that has swapped in a different engine in 'em....due to the new electrical system.

For info on swapping a 5.0 in your 98+ 4x4, check out Rwenzings project log and Int3rc3ptor's project log. Both involve a new trans and new tcase.

If you want a fast project, get a Gen1 or Gen2 ranger and swap in a hot SBF and throw in a c6 and shiftkit it with a floor shifter. There's kits out there for those on swapping in a SBF....even headers are out there that are direct fit. 2wd fast lil pickup.

I looked into swapping a 5.0 into my 04 ranger......I gave up too much work and money for what you get.

I am now looking at a full size truck lol

Thanks for the info guys. I may just let my dad put the 289 in the *****'s, wake up the V-6 in my truck some... call it a day. There's still plenty of stuff I can do to doll it up, I'll be asking more questions later.

Thanks again.

Yeah if you want a few ponies, get a drop in filter, exhaust, and tuner and your done...unless you think about superchargers, new heads, etc.

Super Six Motorsports 4.0L Heads

Those prices make the 5.0 look better every day.

Sit down and make worst case, high end estimates of the time and money that you think will cover the cost of a V8 swap into a late model Ranger ... then take those estimates and double them.
