feeler: v-8 swap

i'm very undecided.... my father-in-law has a '93 f-150 w/ a 302 and auto in it and it was wrecked and i said something about wanting to 5.0 the danger ranger('94 reg cab 2x4 w/ 2.3 and 5 speed) and he said he has the donor vehicle. so it seemed he kinda offered it out right? well i dunno how much different it is from a mustang or expo. i know i will have to get advanced adapter mounts but what about headers, oil pan, things like that. i'm sorta trying to figure out what it will cost before i get into it to see if it would be worth it....

Alright bud, here you go. Yes, get the AA mounts, they are the best off-the-shelf mounts you can buy, and they will basically bolt right in. As far as exhaust, you have a few options since they are non gt40p heads. There are many manufacturers of headers for your swap. AA, L&L, Heddman, James Duff, all make them. You could also run Explorer manifolds to save some cash, Im pretty sure they will work with no issues as I have them in my truck, and they share the same frame (mine was a 2.3 2wd when it left ford). IIRC, you wont need a custom oil pan, look around on here b/c I think a factory style dual sump pan will work. As far as the intake and harness, they will not work. The truck style intake will hit the hood. Here's what I would do personally. Snag what hes got, and replace the intake with a 96-97 NON-DPFE style explorer upper/lower intake. It is easy to identify b/c it has no external EGR tube. Then, get a MAF Mustang harness that had a 5 speed, and run a 5 speed from a 97+ 4.2L equipped F-150. Your current master cylinder will work with the slave cylinder in that trans, and the shifter will be in the same spot too.

Thats what I would do if I were building a 2wd V8 Ranger... But haveing seen the truck, I honestly wouldn't put that much effort into it b/c you are going to have double the trucks value in the swap. If I were you, I would keep driving it, keep getting the good Fuel mileage, and keep beating the **** out of it.

well i would have more than the trucks value in it. but when you build a truck for toy you would have more in it than its worth. sorta like yours. if you add up the previous owners work and your work it prolly has more in it than its worth. the body it self is fixable. alot of bondo on the driver door were it has the small cut.new bumpers. really besides scratches and a few dents the body isnt too bad. the interior needs work. but nothing i cant get out of a salvage vehicle. it isnt getting no 25 mpg either. that 2.3 is almost wore out. i'm not gonna put $500 dollars into trying to figure out why i have a little miss at idle and small mileage loss. i could put that towards putting a drivetrain together that would be sweet. then the body work could progress.
