My 5.0 is not down shifting ..
I have an 89 Mustang Gt 5.0 4 spd OD/automatic. Had it out Sunday and noticed when I took my foot off the gas ( about 30 mph) and slowed to idle , I felt the trans down shift/change only as the car slowed. I also noticed that when going about 30 mph and slowed to 20 mph and when I got back on the gas it felt like the trans was still in a fourth gear , it only down shifted when I got on it.
Any clues???

Yeah, I found a web site that has a 3 minute video on "how to do that" I remember last year I had to change that gasket around the throttle body cause anti-freeze was leaking on the valve cover and into the air plenum. I must of down some twisting on it. I'll get out to look at it closer tomorrow.... How much space should it have from the end of the cable back to that black clip?
Thanks,
Thanks,

well with the car running in park, you pull the cable out 1/4" and the pressure should be something like 28PSI or 38PSI from the TV port (cant remember off the top of my head)
you can install a gauge and move the cable in and out (not more than 1/2 inch or so and dont hold it out) to make sure the TV cable and its internal components are operating properly

I got under the car an everything seemed to be in good shape, I got the clip off and centered it under that cam hole and it seemed to be a bit lees of that black bar exposed. Pushing that clip forward (towards the engine) will make that cable longer? Making it push back harder on that TV bracket? The cable at the end near the throttle seems to to pull back firmly .

Thats what I noticed first as the car slowed down I could feel the trans shift down, from forth to third, from third to second but stayed in second. But when I got back on the gas it felt like it was bogging till it got back over 30. If I hit the brake then the trans would go down to first gear. The weather has been so crapping since I adjusted it I haven't been able to take it out for a drive.

Seems to go through the gears fine on its way up, I keep looking for clues if its been out of the car but I can't tell. What do you run your timing at? The only non-stock items I have on it is a K&N air filter, Ford Racing unequal length headers and I just added Flowmaster's American Thunder exhaust kit to it. Went on faster then it took me to get the old system off.
Thanks...

I have a few minor mods. Edelbrock performer intake, edelbrock 650 4 barrel, 2.25 manifolds back and a mild cam.
It shifts up beautifully, sometimes od hits hard.
I might have a little better luck if it was still fi, but I doubt it this is all cmmon for the aod.
As for timing, I have it dead on factory, I've seen the best overall performance and gas milage leavibg the timing stock.
