If u have to ask its to hard for you to do it yourself. And I doubt its worth paying out the *** for labor to have one fabed in.

Putting a L/S in the rear would be pretty simple if you found a lunch box one.

I dont think a Lunchbox LS has ever been made. Lockers yes, but a LS I dont think so.

the newer 3V 4.6 would be awesome in a Ranger. The newer Explorers have them, not sure if Explorers have drifted far from the Ranger to make it difficult.

I would think that the biggest problem you would have would be to get it in the engine bay. Most of the wiring shouldn't be too bad. I have been pondering over this one as well cause I am thinkin about swaping the 3V 4.6L out of my Mustang and putting a Mach 1 DOHC 4.6L in there. Then maybe messing around and putting the 3V into my 07 Ranger. I am wondering if the wiring behind the engie bay is compatible and if not, what kind of harnesses will I need. I know the new Explorers and Mustangs come with the 4L and the 3V 4.6L and I wouldnt think the harnesses would be too different.

No, the 4.6L was added to the Explorer options when the larger Gen 3 was introduced in 2002. 95~2001 V8's were 5.0L.

The engine fits in plenty easily. If you look you will se that those of us that have done it have more then put that to rest.

It will fit, it will work. But you have to be very mechanically inclined. Very.
Plus you need a lot of tools. Welder, and so on...

If I were to install one for someone, they'd be spending at least $5,000 just on labor. At least.

I wouldnt bother with a 4.6 3v more complex to tune and more expensive to buy. You can get a decent used 4.6 2v for $500 and up. Throw some bolt on's to it..some headers...a tune and make 300rwhp and still get decent mpg's
