Welcome to the forum

What I am seeing is

You have a 1998 Ranger 3.0l 4x4.....manual or automatic?

You want to use a 5.0l V8 and transmission from a Mountaineer.......what year?

Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer are basically the same vehicle
Good read here to get you started: Installing a 2000 Ford Explorer 5.0 Engine in a 1998 Ford Ranger

Make sure you get the KEYS with the Mountaineer, you will need at least 1 working PATS key to activate Computer for startup

A 1997-2003 F-150 4x4 with 4.2l V6 will have the manual trans and transfer case you need
4.2l V6 has same trans bolt pattern as the 5.0l(302), windsor pattern
It is an M5OD-R2(M5R2) 5 speed trans, Rangers used the smaller M5OD-R1
The 1997-2003 M5R2 had shifter in the same place as the M5R1 so direct fit in floor pan hole, earlier 5.0l manuals had shifter farther forward, and can be used you just need to cut new hole and get shifter arm bent to clear dash

Will the auto trans it has not fit? I was thinking I could just swap the entire drivetrain into the ranger Bc it has a auto and I wouldn’t have to flash the computer if I just took out my manual shifter and put a floor shifter in
