so i have a spare lightning short block

heres thought put the compression back in the motor. 4v with a carb i know i need a cowl hood and i know the motor mounts will have to be moved.but how much cutting and banging would make it fit in a 95 Ranger.

A 5.4 4V would be tough to shoehorn into any year Ranger. In the '97-earlier Rangers it takes relocating the steering box just to get a 4.6 in there. The '98-up 2wd will take a 4.6 without much problem, but a 5.4 4V would require several additional mods.

Here's what a 4.6 4V looks like in a '98:

a 5.4 2V might fit, if a 4.6 4v can fit in a panther body, and a 5.4 2v can, i dont see why a 5.4 2v cant fit in the ranger if the 4.6 4v can.

Although im no expert

Just do it.

I beleive a 4.6 DOHC came is the same size as the 5.4. Not 100% sure though.

I am sure it will fit with the block, but Custom headers, engine mounts, tranny mounts, steering box ect, will need to be made.

The wiring alone will be a nightmare.

The 5.4 has a taller deck height than the 4.6. This means the engine is both taller and wider than a 4.6. This would mean more clearance issues with the headers, steering, brake booster, HVAC box, etc.

Post up facts guys, what you BELIEVE doesn't count for squat.

Usually if you want something answered, you post it as a question not a statement.

I think goin dry sump will give me a couple more inches i could bed mount or mount the stuff in the holes for my back seats in my extend cab. as far as wiring goes my truck is a stick i was goin to upgrade to a TKO or T-56 and being carb eliminates any real need for an ECU. HVAC and AC i dont need the only thing the state requires for inspection is a defroster and it just has to blow air. rangers are way to heavy for a manual rack. of course the cooling fan would have to be an electric pusher.

Carbed dosen't always mean easy. Yes its easier then a EFI (by alot) but it still isn't easy.

Are you? Have you seen or done it?[/QUOTE]

Don't see why people have to be pissy all the time. Just correct the person, say hey its this not that and be on your way. Its how we get chit done.

The hardest thing about the carb deal is choosing the right manifold for your application and rebuilding the carb. It can be difficult if you're building the motor yourself yes, but as far as installing a carbed motor in anything is not bad at all.

Carefull on the dry sump oil system. that's all we used at Nascar tech and it's a real pita to install and it aint cheap either.
