Intermitten sluggishness, back fire, running crappy

So for pased few days i have noticed that after driving for a decent time, the truck intermittenly decides to bog down on a take off and back fire. barely does. it. Its almost like its runnin on 7 1/2 cylinders. possible arch through on the wires? it is completely random. possible coil pack goin bad. idk. just lookin for some suggestions. it will idle perfect (which it has been for a loooong time) and then it will stop. I am also leaning towards a fuel system issue. I still have issues starting her up after i get gas. possibly pump taking a crap.

Sp I tinkered a bit with her when I got home. While running I pulled the number 7 wire off the plug. Barely any change hardly any spark arch between wire and plug. Checked it at the coil pack and had good spark. Then pulled the number 4 wire off the plug and got that lovely shock I was looking for. Thinking possible plug wire. That would explain the intermitten actions cuz when I'm crusin on the hwy there's no issues. Also my rocker arms still seem so freaking loud. I need to check them and see if they are good and snug.

My friend had a hard time with one plug wire melting on the exhaust until he put those little metal "shields" over the boot. Been good ever since.

You running stock rockers? Stock valve covers?

well i ruled out bad gas. filled up today and same symptoms. it really really feels like its only firing on 7 cylinders, there is NO acceleration but at higher rpms and cruising speeds its fine. . im leaning more and more towards bad plug wire. when i first got the truck runnin it ran horrible because of Arch through with them. so im gonna replace them and go from there.....hopefully that works.

as long as you have good spark plugs that are properly gapped.

and your getting a good spark @ the coil, unless the wires are brand new, i'd say thats what it sounds like to me, could be old/cheap/weathered.

if it needs new wires or if you want to replace them anyway i'd say just get new ones, but i had a coil go out on my motorcycle and it felt the same as bad wires when i had my old car.

Yea I had my coil pack go out on me with the 3.0l and it is the same issues. I'm gnna pick up a new plug set tmw and swap them out and see it that's it. I puled the plug wire off #1 cylinder and the spark arch was great. The tried the #7 and it was barely there, damn near non existent.

well after a new set of plug wires, new fuel filter, oil change, and overall go check up. shes back to normal.

sounds good, did you buy new wiries when you got the motor? or were those the ones that came with it?
