well i found good deal on a local ranger for sale with a 5.0 and auto trany in it. its a 93 and i believe the 302 came out of a 88 lincoln town car. motor and trany are strong new parts etc. but i was thinking of buying it and swaping the 5.0 from it into mine, and my 3.0 back into the 93. will this motor swap easy enough into my truck since its already in a ranger, or no?. Also how hard would it be to hook up the trany stuff to my auto trany , like the columb shifter etc.


if any of you guys could help me out with my questions that'd be great!

is the 5.0L carbed or FI? That seems way old to put in a 2002.. i dunno

93s dont have the OBDII that your 02 does


so its possible the 93 is carbed, and then you would have to run carbed in your 02, or spend MORE money to get it fuel injected

Also, would the tranny bolt up with your transfer case?

and it wont be easy putting the 3.0 in the 93 because youd have to put your computer in it, PITA wiring job

no its FI.. and i already know i have to get a new transfer case and driveshafts. i believe i can use the Expedition T-case, which i think some have used

The Ranger engine compartment and frame is very different for 97-back versus 98-on.

When the 302 was added to the Explorer, Ford had to design a bunch of special new parts to make the engine package compatible with the Ex engine compartment, frame and front suspension layout. Examples of the unique parts are the oil pan, timing gears, timing cover, water pump, accessory drive, exhaust manifolds, etc.

Your 2002 4x4 shares its engine compartment and front suspension with the 5.0L Explorer. The Explorer version is the only 302 that will fit into a 98+ easily.

Beyond the physical dimensions, you would have to consider EFI vs. carbed, returnable or returnless fuel, EEC-IV vs EEC-V, wiring harnesses, OBDII systems, transmission and transfer case bolt patterns and torque capacity, etc., etc., etc.

If you don't have an Exploder to snag everything from, its going to be quite a project.

Emissions laws are the biggest problem to overcome. Once passed, its a lot of parts expenses and time.

no tests here. idk, i'll prolly wait till mid summer and check as many places as possible and find a rolled explorer or somthn. so i can have all parts at hand. just seeing if i could maybe stuff this one it, but i'll wait
