In-Line Connector - C125 5.0L & C184 2.5L
Anybody know what the "In-Line" connector goes to?
My Ranger has C184 which is a round plug. The Explorer came with C125, which is rectangular. Here are the wire colors and pinouts: C184 - Ranger 2.5L 321 (GY/WH) 57 (BK) 113 (YE/LB) 113 (YE/LB) 570 (BK/WH) 441 (RD/YE) C125 - In-Line for 5.0L 57 (BK) 321 (GY/WH) 253 (DG/WH) 258 (WH/PK) 441 (RD/YE) 570 (BK/WH) 113 (YE/LB) 254 (DG/WH) |
That stuff is for the A/C clutch, A/C sensors, engine sensors, starter circuit, etc. Why can't you just use the 5.0 main engine harness and the compatible 5.0 subharness and avoid the connector incompatibility?
|
Wow thanks for the information! The only reason I haven't spliced the compatible 5.0 harness over is because I wanted to know what I was cutting before I cut it, in case of future problems.
This connector is actually a separate sub-harness from the main engine harness (batt cables, starter stuff, etc.). Where did you find that information, and how can I look up wire colors/pinouts to tell me what the circuit is used for? Thank you so much, Bob! |
You need to buy the Helms EVTM manuals for the year Ranger and the year Explorer engine you are using. Wise to double check everything you are connecting between the Explorer wiring and the Ranger wiring. Don't assume just because the plugs connect that all of the circuits are identical. Many/Most are, but not all. Each model year Ranger and each model year Explorer had differences within the model and between models. Contact Helm Inc. and get the proper manuals. Extremely helpfull during my swap and others. (www.helminc.com)
Also, I used the explorer battery harness in my swap. Made things much easier. |
Absolutely ^^^ The Ford/Helm Wiring Manuals are essential for this kind of work. Here's some info to get you started:
C184 - 2000 Ranger 2.5L 321 (GY/WH) A/C compressor clutch 57 (BK) ground 113 (YE/LB) Starter relay to starter solenoid 113 (YE/LB) Starter relay to starter solenoid 570 (BK/WH) Ground for A/C cutoff pressure switch 441 (RD/YE) A/C cycling switch to A/C pressure cutoff switch C125 - 2001 5.0L 57 (BK) ground 321 (GY/WH) A/C compressor clutch 253 (DG/WH) Oil pressure sending switch - pin 8 258 (WH/PK) Engine oil temp/low level switch (Not used for Ranger) 441 (RD/YE) A/C cycling switch to A/C pressure cutoff switch 570 (BK/WH) Ground for A/C cutoff pressure switch. 113 (YE/LB) Starter relay to starter solenoid 254 (DG/WH) Engine oil temp/low level switch (Not used for Ranger) - pin 11 |
Wow great information! You guys are so helpful! I'll contacting Helms right now. I never new there was another version of the EVTMs out there other than the ones on the Ford Tech. Service Publication.

Does your info have schematics, connector diagrams, pinouts, etc.? |
I just realized I don't have pin 253 (DG/W). They are both oil pressure sending switches, so is it okay if I butt off this wire since it isn't used with the Ranger? What exactly did it do?
Also, can I use the white/pink wire (258) as a signal for an oil temp gauge from AutoMeter? |
