Cylinde wall scratch: hone or bore

I have this extra I wanna say 74 302 block(hopeful 347 candidate) and I see this scratch in the cylinder and it's all the way where the rings. I can feel it with my finger but it doesn't catch on my fingernail. Can rehone it or will it need to be bored? If you tell me how to post a picture I will for better understanding.

If you can't catch it with your fingernail, I'd say hone not bore.

But.....A 347 needs to be bored out .030" so if that's your path, gotta be bored out anyway.

Yea the blocks already bored .40 over. Which honing device would you recomend for this a dingle berry or a stone hone.

I am completely and totally anti dingle berry. There are people that love it and can use it just fine. I always scratch things up way too much and prefer stones. Just me though.

Dingle berry is a wire brush
Stone is a sanding block

Both have their uses

With a sanding block, the stone honer, you will get a better deglazing and clean up of any marks, BUT........you can also damaged cylinder if you have to much pressure on the stones, just like you can make an uneven surface with a sanding block.

Wire brush, dingle berry, also does OK with deglazing and clean up of "most" marks.
Dingle berry, for the most part, can't damage a cylinder, just cleans it up.

There is no doubt the stone honer is better, just like getting a head or block surfaced is better than just cleaning it up with wire brush and scraper, lol, but have to be careful.
