My newest V8 project - questions thanks

Hi
Just signed up with your forum . But Have been lurking for a few years. Just after I discovered the Expo V8 was a reasonable swap into a Ranger.
I Did 5 V8 swaps in the old Twin-beam trucks. But lost interest.
15 years later I am back. And interested in the SLA front suspension. And I love the idea of torsion bar 4x4 trucks .
So about a year ago. I scored a 2001 super cab 4.0 4x4 with 4.10 LSD axles. And I have learned to like the electric shift transfer case.

But Last week I lifter off the throttle getting off at my exit. And the 260K engine stalled.
Coasted up the ramp. And when cranking the engine in an attempt to restart. It sounded funny – like a 4 cylinder that had lost the timing belt.
AAA towing got me home. And as I had guessed the left cam had jumped time. And bent valves.
Sad because I did not hate the 4.0 SOHV engine.
Silver lining
I have scored a nice 2001 Expo V8. And looking forward to an engine repower.
Thinking I may purchase the advance adaptor kit later. That would allow me to keep my 2 speed T-case.
Or keep the AWD T-case. But Thinking I would need to swap the front hubs from the explorer?
As the Ranger has auto locking hubs. And the Expo is a full-time deal Correct?
Does that sound correct Guys?

Was also wondering how far I need to go with the explorer wire loom?
Could swap the entire wire loom?
But if I did that – How would I deal with the Electric T-case controls when I do that swap?
Did read about just making connections at the fire wall. And keep most of the body loom from the ranger. Will this let me keep the 2 speed ranger T-case?

FYI
I have already ordered the Rangers Factory EVTM. But not yet received it.
And Yes I purchased a Shifster for emergency. But Want to keep the ****- Thanks
Not a mud guy. I just live in the snow belt. And like the outdoors.

Sorry This is a ton of questions
Thanks in advance

Alex

The wiring is pretty straight forward but there will be a couple "gotcha's"

The PATS system between your Expo and Ranger are different, you'll need to graft in the Expo's PATS module and work out a way to re-use the Expo key(s). (Couple options there)

The speedometer signals are another issue. Your 01 Ranger expects it's speed signal from the PCM, the 01 Expo expects it from the ABS system. So, put both together and you've got NO speed signal at all! Grafting in bits of the Expo ABS system is the common solution but adding in an earlier VSS or a 4 cyl Ranger GEM are also options.

A couple great reads that cover most issues:
