awesome job on the project. i like how you made the headers out of al prebent pipe. is it/has it held up well? i might either make or get custom headers fab'd for my 5.0.

That is how pretty much every shop builds custom headers. A box of bends in various degrees, a saw, a welder, a lot of patience, and a ton of time. I did mine from 1 3/4" bends from Stahl headers (http://www.stahlheaders.com/)

 

sweet.. yeah ive seen alot of shops..and tv programs do that. i might have to think about that for my 5.0

I wish it was easier to dump a V8 in my 04... Although I would want a 302...:)

 

simply amazing!!! i've always wondered if you could swap a 4.6. now i know...sorta haha. love the color too. project is deffinately comming along great. i realy like the convertable truck idea too. i used to draw them in school all the time haha. its looking great, keep up the work!!!

 

Thanks much for the compliments all! As for the headers, I have done a couple sets that way for other vehicles. They hold up fine. It is a tedious project. You may want to make them. Most places get over $1,000 to build custom headers.

 

Are you going to hit any 1/4 mile tracks anytime soon? That is a sweet truck!

Dude! That is awesome! How would you rate the difficulty in getting it in there? On the same level as a 5.0 or easier? I'm playing with the idea of either a 5 liter or a 350 (I know..boo chevy boooo) but I'm getting conflicting reports.

That would be very interesting putting a 350 Chevy in a Ranger, very very interesting....

 

Yeah and when you have engine probs and the chevy people make fun of you cause it's a ford it'd be their motor lol

 

Yea its more mind bending than you think. I've already got the interior completely tore out, so messing with the firewall isn't gonna be a problem. Plus I'm putting in a Toyota front clip, and they take to a small block faster than a fat kid blows through a box of thin mints. I'm just worried about the depth of the engine....

 

The 4.6 is ten times harder then a 5.0 is for install. A 350 is actually a pretty easy install. Want step by step go to rangerpowersports.com. There are a couple guys over there that have done it.

As for 1/4 mile and dyno, they are coming soon.

 

Well, lately it has been about body work and the like. I did slap the new wheels and tires on and take it for a spin. No weight on the back, it just goes sideways and spins! But fun none the less! Here's a couple pics with the wheels on. As soon as I figure out how to use this video I took, I'll get it up. It's a vid of it running and the exhaust.

The box is almost done as far as body work, I'll throw some pics of it up later. I am redoing the convertible part of the truck and some previous body damage repair. The previous owner, not so good at it. Also, the convertible conversion used just plastic covers. It was quite weak. It was all fixed with welded in plates and welded on caps. It will be much more sturdy. Also threw the roll bar in. Don't know why, but it seemed pretty logical! Now, if I could figure out this video!

Okay, been ages since an update. But it's been all body work so here is some progress. I went and swapped out the front end to the 91 body to, so a few big changes. Here's some pics!
