ok i gotta ask how come all you guys haven't considered any cat engines? or even a navistar? the i-6 diesel that international used in their cab and chassis 1 and 1 and a half tons would fit in a ranger with ease. plus international makes th power stroke.caterpillar has an old v8 diesel they used to make in the late 70's and still do today, it has 350 c.i.d. about 220 hp and around 450-500 ft lbs of torque. the cat is all mechanical. and would fit very easy into a ranger. after the frame is reinforced and the suspension toughened up.i know the navistar aint ford. but neither is the power stroke. the psd is made by international for ford.

All aluminum block. DOHC. No aftermarket support but you don;t need it.
A 4.6 is easy...

Not to mention Navistar and International are the same company.

What's the specific model number on the Cat?
