351W to 1990 2.9 Ranger

Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum but am eager to get some ifo on my project. Here's what i'm working with, I have to work with: 1990 Ranger 2.9 V6 5 speed 4x4, and my donor truck: and 83 F150 4x4 with a 351W i'm am not to sure about the tranny yet. My main question is with some fabrication can i use the tranny, transfer case and gearing out of the front and rear end of the F150?

Any info will be very helpfull, as far as the engine swap its self i do have a pretty good idea on what needs to be done.
Thanks

1990 Ranger Custom 4x4 2.9 3" Lift. 32x12.50" Cooper SST Radials

You're not going to be able to swap the gears from full size axles to Ranger axles.

Have you considered putting both axles under the Ranger?

I would just swap the complete axles. They would be wider, but it's up to you if you want to make them narrower.

You going to build the motor? Seems like a lot of work for 150 HP (210 if it had a four barrel). IMO there are better V8’s for the work involved in fitting it in a second gen.

first an 83 f150 is not solid its ttb. so that swap is alot harder its been done but alot harder.

second yes an f150 tranny and tcase will work you will probably have to make some room for them. a body lift help makes alot of room for v8 swaps. do a little research around here and you will find tons of info.

well i am planning on pistons, heads, cams, intake and so on, but that all depends on the condition of the motor when i get it onto a stand and start tearing it down, if i had big money to burn i would do a 347

Just telling you from experience, if you don't have money to burn you are better off leaving the engine alone. A custom engine swap is big money alone. Then add a high horsepower engine build, or even a cheap stock engine rebuild, you are still talking major cash. The people who start without the budget in the bank usually give up and part their vehicles out after a year or so. Homework, Homework, Homework, is the key. Know what you need to do, know what it is going to cost to do it right, then double it for the unknown. After that you should be good to go IMO.
