03 ranger with explorer v8
What year explorer 5.0 would be better suited in a 03 ranger. I found 1 96 that has not pats on it. Im still doing alot of research i just saw this 96 and thought maybe it would be okay. any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried looking all over the internet and different sites and cannot find anything.

It would work, but you would have to switch to a return style fuel system. You would still have to do some wiring, but it wouldn't be like with Pats. With Pats you would need the computer pcm, the pats module, pats transceiver on the column, and pats keys all from the same explorer, otherwise you would have to have it removed in the pcm, or reprogrammed if any of the pats components did not come from the same explorer.
Explorers used Pats B, were your ranger has Pats E which eliminates the pats module in between , and just sends a signal from the pats transceiver to the pcm. There is a guy ttbit I think is his sn name, that swapped a 96 explorer 5.0 in his 01 sport trac on explorerforum, and eliminated pats. This is the link below, hope it helps.

Did 96's come with PATS? Also does PA have emissions testing?
States that allow it to be done specify that the new motor cannot be older then the car or truck it's going into. An example is; a 99 4.6L going into a ranger 99 and older. That would be allowed. A 351C getting put into a 99 ranger would have some issues. However it would be badass.

96 doesn't have PATS I believe it started in 98 for the explorer. I'm not sure about PA emissions. I think you could still register your vehicle though just might have to find a loophole to do so.
