the explorer case is AWD..not true 4hi-low 4wd, and is not very strong. i could have used my 3.0 case with an adapter from AA. but the exped. t-case was cheaper than that and stronger. and the T-case is a 4406

just a slight update. found out that the Expedition case that i have is way to much work to put in. i dont know if there are different kinds of expedition t-cases and i dont have the 4406 or what. but the wiring is a fubar situation. its completely different than the ranger/explorer setup and would almost need the expedition wiring system'd into the explorer stuff. so im gona be running the explorer t-case, i would get the adapter to run my 3.0 tcase behind it but i dont have the time or money. i want this thing done. so i will deal with the exploder t-case for as long as i can (without 4low..but i'll get auto 4wd i think!)and maybe do somthn later on. i may get a trail rig anyways and this truck might just become my cool cruiser and light play truck down the road.

its not AWD.. the mountaineer t-cases that came with the drivetrain my truck has are.. im getting the "push-button" 4wd explorer case.. and 4hi with the 5.0 will be cake compaired to the 3.0 and 4hi..so im not worried about it.

and the others are just too much work right now to try and get them to work with the system thats in there. hours and hours of electrical troubleshooting that i dont have

Ahh, just figure out the wiring! You'll be better off in the end! It shouldn't be too hard. They don't have wiring diagrams over there?

i like 4hi in my 4.0, 4hi in a 5.0 will still be so much better than that 3.0...

you should just get some type of manual transfercase later on

Not sure why you are seeing trouble with the wiring. From what I remember with my Ranger, when I looked at putting an expedition case in, the wiring was nearly plug and play from the electronic 1354 to the 4406. Only reasons I didn't go that route were cost for drive shafts and the yoke right next to the fuel tank, as the 4406 has the longer slip yoke rear output.

Pretty sure the 4406 is the only T-case. But Expeditions came with a few different systems too. An auto system, a true selectable system, and an auto with lo and hi options. Throw a pic of it up, I can tell you. Otherwise look at the tag!

I'd need to see the build tag. They have the same housing.

Again, get the tag, I can tell you if it's the auto. You want the selectable one, but can use either.
