V-10 into a 94 4X4???
 

Was offered a free 6.8L v-10 out of a 2001 Excursion, but will need a crank kit...spun a main bearing.
Am I just dreaming or it is posible to shoe horn this beast into my 94 STX super cab 4x4?
I'm not affraid to massage the fire wall a little, but I don't really want to remount the seats into the bed or add a 6 inch body lift to drive it.
Just can't seem to find any info on it or if it was even attempted before, but since the offer the thought of a V-10 Ranger won't get out of my head....my thought are it would be different and just strait bad a$$ to have.

For free I would take it. Don't get a rebuild kit right away however. See if you can find a V8 more commonly swapped into the rangers and take measurements. Compare them to the V10. See whats different, whats gonna fit and what isn't. And in the end if you decide against it then you can just scrap the motor for a little cash.

Also, you have to consider the transmission, as I'm pretty sure No ranger tranny shares a bolt pattern with any V10, and a V10 would tear it apart even if they did fit together.

Well you have done one motor swap so I would guess you have the tools and the know how. It is possible but I would imagine you would need to make a custom front frame section as those engines are huge.

You would need to get the whole drive line from a 3/4 ton and im willing to bet that t-case will be a tight fit between the frame rails. to do this you will have to be alot better than me at fab work, but you should do it.

Do it! build a drag truck! tube frame, just start with a body and a motor

Does your truck need more HP? And if you do this then all the other money and time put into the truck would be wasted.

I'm taking the engine, either way I'll be making out, use, part out or scrap...I don't have pics yet as it's still in the Excursion and about 20 miles from me. soon as it's out I'll be picking it up. in the mean time I'll be checking out trans and T-cae options...I don't need any more HP than I have with my current 4.5L stroker, but the cool factor would be off the scale!
I need it in my possession first to get measurements and a weight, and go from there...one step at a time.

v10 go kart

Its a very long heavy engine. Both the 4R100 and BW 1356 have been swapped into rangers the tranny requires the floor to be messaged and possibly a cut/reweld in places, the transfercase will require a notch in the driverside frame rail. It has been done with no ill-effects.

Width is not an issue since its just as wide as the 5.4/4.6 both of which fit. It is 27 1/8" long and 28 1/2" tall. Measure it out and see if you will clear. It will likely require you to mount the radiator under the trim panel and as close foreward as possible, slimline fans and to still mount the engine a little bit into the dash.

I would love to see it done. I was going to originally just swap a 5.4L 3V in and call it good but if the V10 will fit I'm game for the extra HP/TQ.

Motor fits like a glove into the F150 even with the added 4" of motor of the 4.6/5.4L. Downside for the one you pulled is it is a drive by wire motor. You may have to get the PCM/throttle body off of a 97/98 and possibly later model van for it to work without swapping in a drive by wire pedal on your truck.

I dont see a problem with the width and height of the v10, as the length would be the issue, but that has already been brought up. The rest of the project wouldn't be bad, like the pcm, throttle body, and the rest of the drivetrain. Should be a good, fun project!
