Deal or no deal? V8 Ranger

A guy locally is selling a 99' Ranger single cab automatic(C-6) with a Explorer V8 with a 303 cam in it and stock headers. He said the engine came from a rolled Explorer with 70k on it he believes, but runs great. He said the body is in good shape but will need repainted because it has a new bedside and a tailgate. It also has 4.10 gears. He said the interior is clean. The only problems I got out of talking to him were that Every so often when you put in gear it stalls but happens somewhat rarely. And he also said that it wines at 50 like it needs another gear so I'm assuming that means it tops out at 50. The body has 140k on it to. He wants $1400 for it but I'm going to go check it out on sat. and if Its in good shape I'll offer him $1200. Is this a good deal? I figured just the swap cost 3gs.

Its going to need paint
wheels
lowered 2/3 or 5/6s
manual trans
headers
maybe exhaust
And some other odds and ends

Wow that's weird. Just called him a couple hours before making this thread. And the link worked when I made this thread haha. Hmmm...I'll give him a call sat. like I told him. This could be an epic fail thread...

in my opinion its worth it...most likely all the hard work is done....id get it and take it to a shop and ask them if they can diagnose the problems it has you know....it shouldnt be too bad....and id start at 1250 just to be safe you know?

Idk I talked to the guy, he seemed pretty knowledgeable about it and how he needed it gone asap b/c of some financial troubles. Maybe someone called before me and came later today and bought it. Just a strike of bad luck.
