V8 wiring help
Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum as I just took on a fun project a couple weeks ago. I'm swapping a 5.0 drivetrain from a 1996 explorer into a 1994 ranger, both are 2wd. I was needing some info on how much of the wiring harness, fuses, and other items I would need to convert this OBD2 setup into the OBD1 ranger.... maybe a wire splicing diagram would be helpful also? Thanks
Welcome to the forum
There won't be anything specific to go on since each years swapping combo is different
i.e. a 1997 into a 1993 or a 1996 into a 1994 will be different wiring wise, similar but usually not exactly the same.
The V8 computer is OBD2 so that is what you are going to use, so just forget about OBD1
You will be swapping over the engine/transmission and exhaust system, along with V8 computer and wiring harness
Exhaust will have the extra O2 sensors the 1994 ranger didn't have so not a big deal.
Hopefully the V8 transmission has a speedometer cable hook up, Rangers had them until 1997(the hookup on trans), not sure about Explorers.
1994 dash uses/needs speedo cable
temp gauge, oil gauge, voltage gauge and fuel gauge are the same analog type that is in the 1996 Explorer, tach will need some changes if so equipped
Most of the V8 computers wiring goes to the engine, you just need to hook up the power wires and Grounds.
The Rangers charging and starting system wiring should be plug and play
