SWAP. 86 RANGER- 96 302 EFI DO I NEED SOME HELP!!¡!
I I purchased a 1996 302 with the four-speed automatic transmission and the outside wiring harness out of a F-150 I put a 1996 302 in a Ford Ranger 1986 model started wiring hooked all fusible links to the starter solenoid hooked all sensors on engine up two plugs on the transmission went to try to start it had no fuel no fire brand new fuel tank so I hooked fuel pump in the tank up and come to find out there was also one on the frame that I didn't know about I hooked both fuel pumps up finally started getting fuel then I had no spark and I still have no spark replace the coil checked the coil after I purchased a new one and they both show good with the multimeter replaced the ignition control module supposed to be on the distributor but mine was put on the fender well because of heat still have no fire I can hook up a hot wires directly to the coil and I still have no fire I did have because it would run when I first tried to start it it would run as long as I sprayed starting fluid to it then when I found out what my fuel problem was and xfixed it I was getting no fire and it hasn't started since I don't know where I stand what I should do I wonder if anybody out there could tell me what I have to have hooked up to make the thing run and how I can bypass this or that or whatever just to get the thing to run any help would be greatly appreciated and I sure could use it it's making me crazy I'm about over it thanks ahead of time.7

Welcome to the forum
1996 F-150 5.0l(302) use 30-40psi fuel pressure so is compatible with 1986 dual pump system in a Ranger, just hook up both fuel lines correctly
IN hose at the engine is from pump and filter and goes directly to Fuel Rail to feed injectors
OUT hose is on the Fuel Pressure Regulator(FPR) and returns unneeded fuel and pressure back to the tank
1996 F-150 Computer is still EEC-IV model so only runs the fuel systems
So yes, there is a separate spark system
This system needs 12volts with key on, to the module and coil, test for both
As the distributor spins the pulses are sent to module and it then grounds and ungrounds the "-" terminal on the coil pack, sparking the coil
Make sure distributor is spinning, it can stop spinning with engine, so have a look, its free
1986 Ranger can have TWO 12v wires to power the spark system, one has 12v when key is on, and that 12v is CUT OFF when key is in START and another 12v wire takes over
So test for 12volt at the coil "+" terminal with key on AND when key is in START
Crank engine over and pull out a spark plug, if tip is WET then fuel side is working, light the tip with a match/lighter, it should burn fast and bright, if not, then ITS NOT FUEL, drain the tank
If tip is not WET then computer is not opening the injectors
Try spraying some fuel into the engine manually and see if it starts, runs and dies, if not you also don't have spark, the spark module sends the timing pulse from distributor to the Computer, computer needs that pulse to time injectors, no pulse no fuel, and no spark, lol
