what is a good tranny for 5.0

im bout to put a 5.0 either from an explorer or a mountaineer into my ranger, my ranger is 2wd and im gonna keep it that way for now atleast, my question is what is a good tranny it originally had the 3.0 but theres no way that tranny will hold up to the v8, will it?

no i don't think it will even bolt up to it.

are you auto or manual?

i think you can change the output shaft on the expo tranny and have it 2wd.

otherwise i think t5 is quite a common tranny for it.

If you want a OD automatic transmission I would go with a transmission called a 4r70w (which I have in my project https://www.ranger-forums.com/showth...=112459&page=3 which is an AWD 5.0 ranger) of course if you want a manual you can go with the ubiquitous T5 which is good for a mild 5.0 but if you want something a bit stronger go with the Treme tr 3550 HD which is extremely reliable. Both transmissions you can put mid-shift kits in them and this will allow the shifter to come up in the stock ranger location.
